Many travellers like to cover the
whole distance from Yuksom to Tshoka in a single day, but the idea is insane as
at the end of the trip body loses all its stamina. So you wisely break it up to
two parts. The first one is your destination for your day – Sachen located at
(2250 meters) above the sea level. Located at the Total Distance of 8 kilometre
and can take 4 hours to reach Sachen from Yuksom and is a great place for
nature lovers and solitude seekers.
Another Day from Sachen to Tshoka
is bid energizing as walking will be stiff up till Tshoka. Situated at 2900
meters above sea level. Tshoka offers government and private huts and stalls.
View of Pandim and ranges are visible in the left of the Camping sites when the
weather is clear.
Dzongri at an altitude of 3,900
meters is about 10 kilometres away from Tshoka and can take 6 hours. It is a
complete ascend to the higher altitude and some can develop signs of altitude
sickness as one mounts higher. Believed to be in the middle of Dzongri and
Tshoka, you will come to Phedang on the route to Dzongri at an altitude of
3,500 meters. When the weather is favourable on the left side it offers the
view of Singalila Range, and on the right side it offers the view of Mt Pandim,
Mt Tenzing Khang, Mt Jophnu, and Oklathang Range etc.
Dzongri is a large cauldron,
mostly meadows, surrounded in all directions by the mighty peaks of the
Kanchenjunga range. Camp overnight at Dzongri. In every direction is a snow
peak to be looked at and admired. In the morning after coffee or tea you can head
up to Dzongri Top at 4:00 am to see the Sunrise and Breath-taking view of Mt,
Khangchendzonga, Mt Pandim, and Mt Kabru north and South, Rathong Peak. After
descending down have your breakfast and you can move your steps to Dzongrilla
Pass at an altitude of 4,500 Meters. Which offers rear view of Rathong Peak,
Frey Peak, and Kabru and so on.
Thangsing actually means a
flatland and is at the distance of 9 kilometres from Dzongri at an altitude of
3930 meters. It can take five hours from Dzongri to reach the trekkers hut.
Thangsing even though it is lower in altitude than Dzongri it is colder as
moister laden wind keeps blowing inside the Thangsing Valley. Sometimes Wind
turn harsh especially in the afternoon in Thangsing and Lamuney area. Great
towering view of Mt. Pandim, Jophnu, and Tenzing Khang at the right side of the
camp will awestruck your eyes.
The day is for acclimatization and exploration. Overnight
stay.
To Descend down to Tshoka one
does not have to go all the way round to Dzongri. Kokchurung offers alternative
to Tshoka. The route from Kokchurung connects to Phedang. The middle point of
Dzongri and Tshoka. The narrow path will prove to be enjoying walk for nature
lovers. Four and half hour Walk among thickest bushes of different floral
species will reach you to Phedang and further down descend via very same route
that you climbed up to Dzongri will take you to Tshoka which can take not more
than 2 hours.
Descend through the same route
that you ascended earlier from Yuksom to Tshoka will reach you to Yuksom in the
afternoon time.
In the morning after breakfast
drive to Bagdogra and from here take a flight for onward destination. Trip and
